Television Repair Career

I just wanted to share some field experience with this blog. The main intention of this blog is to learn and teach. The profession of this electronics is always a challenging one. There is a pressure from customer side. They are very much addicted to the entertainment devices like TV s and Music systems. They always expect speedy service from your side. They also want the device to be repaired perfectly. They also expect you to repair the device if it gets a problem again with in a short period of time with out any payment.
This is one side of the challenge. Another side is the technical one. You need to service them correctly after trouble shooting. But my sincere advice is if you are really capable of doing that you can earn a lot. People don't mind paying any amount of bill if they are satisfied once. Also I advice technicians to learn how to service washing machine and freezers, They are easy to repair and can bring good money also.
And about income, don't run a charity business. Be strict about the financial issues. Also try have good customer links. Once if u find they are good people try give the bes.
They will refer you to other people.
Also distribute hand bills and News paper ads in local market to get more customers. Have visiting cards always with you. When ever you meet new ppl give your card.
The repair career of any electronics is very good if you have a craze for it. Try to be professional always. Always have good relation with other technicians.Always inform the customer about the total bill through telephone if it needs to be of more cost.
The knowledge is your strength.
If you have any queries regarding customer handling please feel free to ask me.

Colour patches on the screen

The main reasons for this problem are
1)Strong magnetic field near picture tube.
2)Problem with PTC.
3)Bad degausing coil.
4)Also try to demagnetise the picture tube degausing gun.
5)Finally, a bad picture tube.

General troubleshooting approach (1) only red color with white retrace lines on the screen, sound normal

most of the the time the reason for this is red output transistor is shorted
I like to share some ideas with u.
out of three RGB any one transistor is shorted means the screen will turn to the colour of for which it is used.for example red transistor is shorted means the screen will be red with retrace lines.if green is shorted screen will be plain green screen with rtrace lines.in case of humpy it wae blue that was shorted. so blue with retrace lines with blue plain screen.this is for shorted transistors.
if it is open transistor.
if a green output transistor is opened or the problem with green output or driver section.only green part will be missing.remaining picture will be madeup of red and blue.to come to know if it is prblem with out put transistor used in neck PCB just exchange the transistor with each other. ie green with red. so now if green transistor was in problem now it makes red disappear as it goes to red place.
some time by checking with multimeter it will not show error, but in working it will not work this is called as run time error.

For me life is a game. I am a kid in the game ground.

Hi friends,
I had started posting about general trouble shooting technical in this blog. Due to some packed schedule with my newly Getting started IT magazine "The Software Mail", I am unable to make any new posting. I strongly apologies all of you for not posting in the blog. Many people have called on telephone showed their angry also.
The main reason for this ,is a designer of my magazine. He just did not cooperated properly. Then I just decided to learn all the designing activity by my self. Then I took 2 days leave for all my work and learnt all the designing software work. Now I myself designed all the article of the magazine and shown to the same designer and gave him a thanks for not cooperating to my works.
He got astonished why I am giving a thanks.
Then I calmly replieds that just because of his non-coopeartion only I toookn i9t as a challange and learnt all the designing software.

For me life is a game. I am a kid in the game ground. I like to do funny things on the ground. bcs for me life is a joy. not punishment

Now the magazine have gone for printing. Give me one day time. I will start up with my SMPS troubleshooting. Oh I have 2 TV s in my service center waiting for service. Just this much for now. Have a nice time.
Regards
MGR

Power supply2 :Switching transistor or STR over heats or blows up again and again

Check swicthing transistor or STR heatsinks also mica sheets. Check diodes and other bulged capacitors near STR or transistor. Replace dought full capacitors. Check for the dry solder in SM transformer. Also in rare cases the SM transformer.

Powersupply-1:Set Dead, AC fuse Blows up again and again

Check the main plug point care fully for any shorts, on - off switch , The main reason for this is bad bridge rectifier. Check all the diodes for shorts. If any one one is damaged please replace all the four diodes. In some P/S (Power supply) an IC is used for rectification. Where 2 pins for AC input and 2 pins for DC output. Also check for variactor. Its shape is similar to the pf capacitor having blue color.
Also check for the PTC with is connected to degaussing coil.also some time shorted line filter will cause this problem. As you know you need to check switching transistor or STR may be faulty.
After repalcing faulty item donot switch on the PS directly. Use the bulb as series connection.
(To understand this process please refer my previous postings). At any cost do not replace fuse with wire.
Also before doing any cold test to PS please discharge main filter.
(To understand this process please refer my previous postings).

First Let us start from SMPS

Dear Friends,
Any TV in-order to function properly it needs regulated power supply (That too regulated) for all the remaining sections like vertical section, audio section etc. Regulated means a constant steady voltage irrespective of fluctuation happening in the main electricity.

For example even if mains wire recieves 10 v less to the actual the smps should produce stable voltage. There are many plans for SMPS to design. One may use STR , one may use transistor.
Nevertheless the plan is different the intention will be common. That is producing regulated voltage.
It is difficult to have all the diagram all the time. So it is very important to have a general trouble shooting idea.
After refering 50-60 books and 8 yrs experience I have designed a general troubleshooting tricks.
So, my next posting on http://ecare-electronics.blogspot.com/ is general tricks of SMPS repair.
Please give me 3 hrs of time I am going for lunch now.

Regards
Raghavendra

Continue postings in the blog it self

From tomorrow I am going to put articles for stage - by -stage trouble shooting of TV in this blog itself.
Please wait.
